Playing violin learning the second finger

You’ve already practised the second finger in the previous step but now you’re learning also the notes.

When you’re playing the second finger, you have to listen very carefully that you play it high enough.

Most of the time people are playing too low in the beginning.

Second finger position on the string

Play this first:

0 1 2

Listen well when you play it.

With violin you have to listen very well because otherwise it will be out of tune.

All the notes plus the second finger notes

Keep all the fingers above the string. Don’t put them on the string. This is more easy to play because they are near the place where you have to put them.

Here are some exercises for the second finger. As you can see, you also have to play the first finger. When the notes are going one step higher, you put one finger.

When the notes are going downwards, you have you pull of one finger.

Have you seen there is also rhythm in the exercises? Did you play the right rhythm?

When there exercises are going good when you play pizzicato, you also can try it to play it with the bow. ( this we call: arco).

This is more difficult, be sure you can play all the notes right with pizzicato. Do you still know all the names of the notes? Here you can do a check.
